S-U-C-C-E-S-S
Woohoo! Our July picnic was a success. The WCYD invited all to come out a post-4th of July, Independence Day celebration at Schaffer Park in Boonsboro, MD. We had a turn out of about 20 people. We had a great game of kickball, two guest speakers and a wonderful picnic dinner. We are thankful to our guest speaker, Hagerstown City Council member, Ashley C. Haywood and to YDM President Jake Weissmann for making the trip to join us for dinner.
It has been agreed by the WCYD to put July meetings on hold and communicate via email. If you would like to be a part of this email me at washcoydms@gmail.com or send us a message on facebook.
Our first scheduled meeting is Tuesday, August 4th and is an executive board meeting. As always, everyone is welcome to attend. If you would like information on the time and location please send us an email or join our group "Washington County Young Democrats" on facebook.
We are looking forward to a productive start to the school year. Our recent topic of discussion is how we would like to recruit in colleges and high schools.

Lastest News from the WCYDs
Alrighty, I know it has been a while since there has been an update to the blog. I would first like to say that the Annapolis tip proved to be a fun time with a private tour of the capital by Delegate Donoghue. Delegate Donoghue had a lot to share with the group about the history of Annapolis and even went out to eat with the group.
The general meeting occurred on the 16th, where the trip to Annapolis was discussed, as well as, plans for the executive board meeting, the July event and overall brainstorming to expand the club and to become active in our community.
On the 17th some members attended the South County Democratic Club Picnic. We had a lovely meal and were able to mingle with an experienced and well established Democratic Club. Our contribution to the event was an ice-breaker activity where we placed names of famous or infamous politicians on the backs of Washington County Young Democrat President, Nick Hall, and Young Democrats of Maryland Secretary, Frank Byrne. The club members gave hints as to which politician they were and Nick and Frank had to make a guess. The WCYD’s enjoyed the game and decided that we will use it at future events.
The South County Democrats also invited the WCYD’s to go on a bus trip with them.
The next meeting is scheduled for the executive board, June 30th. All members are invited to come.
Please also note that WCYD member Frank Byrne has become Secretary of the Young Democrats of Maryland. Congratulations Frank.

On a Roll...
Well it seems as if we are on a roll and possibly gaining momentum as we go into summer.
A couple of us were able to go out and knock on doors for Democratic Candidate David Lidtz for City Council of Hagerstown.
We have a trip to Annapolis planned in June where we will be touring around with Delegate Donoghue and meeting up later with the Young D's of Anne Arundel County.
We also have decided to attend the South County Democrats Picnic Wednesday, June 17th!
Plans are also in the works for an event we will host in July. Next meeting is an officer meeting June 2nd and, as always, is an open meeting.

Yay Followers!!
Thank you fellow YD's for signing up as followers on our group's blog! The JJ is coming up on Monday in Funkstown, if you want to come let Nick know. It would be great if we could fill a table. When we are there it is important that we talk about dates we are available to help out with the Hagerstown Election. For those of you who have never done "grassroots" campaigning we would devote an hour or two out of a day/evening for a couple days and get out the word about our candidates. For Hagerstown, we would probably get walking lists from the candidate and go door-to-door as a group. (3ish people) I plan on bringing this up at the JJ, and asking us to decide on at least two days. So, start looking at your calendars!

Our First Post
This blog is going to keep everyone up to date with the Young Dems in Washington County, Maryland. I am hoping this will not only keep us in touch with each other, but serve as a tool to bring others into our group.
